Turbocharger Telemetry at 200,000 rpm
Manner Sensortelemetrie GmbH: In a time when oil prices are constantly rising and CO2 is being talked about in continually expanding circles, the fuel consumption is extremely important for its sales success. The turbocharger contributes to improving vehicle efficiency. For this reason, a series of new turbocharger developments is going on right now. During validation, the rotating components must especially be evaluated and optimized with regard to stress with respect to their load limits in various operating situations. It is known that these turbochargers in vehicle applications turn at speeds of up to 200,000 rpm.
Manner Sensortelemetrie has developed a miniature 4 channel system which is capable of operating at 200,000 rpm for prolonged periods. This allows the measurement of bearing temperatures, torque and blade vibrations online. The sensor signal amplifier screws into the end of the turbo shaft with the surrounding annular stator antenna attached to the turbo inlet duct. The sensor signal amplifier is 35 mm long, 6 mm diameter and weights 5 g. The measurement signal and the energy are transmitted without contact via the inlet port. Up to 4 channels can be transmitted in parallel with 16 bit resolution. The maximum ambient operating temperature is 160 deg C.
