Force sensors: versatile helpers for added value

Force sensors: versatile helpers for added value

Baumer: Superior quality, more performance, less maintenance – there are many applications that benefit from the use of force sensors. With an intelligently coordinated portfolio of force range and installation options, Baumer offers the right force sensor for every type of application.

Sometimes minor parts can cause major damage, such as a broken ball bearing, for example. Precious time is lost until a new bearing is installed. In the meantime, the costs of the downtime add up. Failures like this happen every once in a while and are unpredictable. However, many could be avoided with the help of a force sensor, because in many applications, the force can be an indicator of the strain, the wear and tear, as well as quality parameters.

Often a large number of ball bearings are installed in large production facilities with conveyor belts. While these are usually maintenance-free, the bearings still fail every once in a while, resulting in expensive machine downtimes. One of the most frequent reasons for the failure of the bearings is overload. Force sensors help recognize and prevent such an overload and thus avoid machine downtimes. In addition, the data gained from the force measurement makes it possible to adjust conveyor belts optimally to the operation and plan maintenance cycles more precisely.

There are many other applications in which force sensors provide valuable information – for quality monitoring of press-in processes, for monitoring the retention force of tensioning equipment in a machining center, or for determining the filling level of a tank through its weight force.

With its new force sensors DLM, Baumer is introducing an intelligently designed portfolio for a range of forces and installation options. It comprises 44 different sensors in three size classes. The force of the DLM series extends from 50 to 20,000 N. The sensors of each force range are available in three designs: as a button version for measuring compressive forces and as inline and screw-on versions for measuring compressive and tensile forces.

The compact design allows the force sensors to be used even when space is limited. All force sensors from Baumer detect varying forces across the entire nominal force range. The sensor can thus be loaded across the entire measurement range in dynamic applications such as punching or fitting.

With its new force sensors, Baumer extends its portfolio for the easy measurement of forces. In addition, Baumer offers customized solutions for force measurement as well as strain sensors for large force ranges.
