Kistler Expands in Germany - Acquisition of Staiger Mohilo strengthens competitive position and technology portfolio

20 June 2006

The Kistler Group with headquarters in Winterthur, Switzerland, is taking over the long-established German company Dr. Staiger Mohilo & Co. GmbH in Lorch with immediate effect. This acquisition brings both firms manifold advantages by opening up new foreign distribution channels for Staiger Mohilo and allowing Kistler to expand its product and technology portfolio. Torque sen-sors will complete the Kistler Product range of force, pressure and acceleration sensors.

Dr. Staiger Mohilo & Co. GmbH, which was established in 1945, is a market leader in torque sensor technology. More than 80 employees develop and produce high quality force-displacement measuring systems, torque and force sensors, and complete test stands for electric motors. These products allow quality assurance as an integral part of automated assembly. To date they have mainly been sold on the German market. Kistler's international distribution network comprising 15 group owned sales companies opens up a whole variety of new sales opportunities for Staiger Mohilo in over 30 countries.

For Kistler the takeover means expansion of its product spectrum with torque sensors. Although mainly for industrial applications, these sensors are increasingly also being used in electric motors and hybrid engines. However, in the form of Staiger Mohilo, Kistler also acquires a technological leader in strain gage technology to further enhance its own expertise in this area.

The addition of Staiger Mohilo – the third takeover in Germany within four years – increases the number of people working for the Kistler group to over 800. In Lorch in Remstal the worldwide group's fourth production center is taking shape. It will continue to be managed by Franz Winter, the hitherto majority stockholder and longstanding CEO.
