Melexis sustained success demands makeover to key semiconductor chip production site in Ieper, Belgium
April 22, 2013 - Ieper, Belgium. Ieper, Belgium has been home to high tech entrepreneur Melexis for 20+ years. Today’s grand opening of Melexis newest expansion project creates an additional 5000 square meters, doubling production capabilities and tripling the total floor space. The success of Melexis in the automotive semiconductor market is driven by dedicated, capable engineers and manufacturing staff. Melexis counts a total of 744 staff worldwide with 123 of those presently employed at its Ieper site. Upon completion of the fitment and occupancy of the new space the adjoining original facility will be upgraded to match the new additions capabilities.
From the very start Melexis chose to use the most modern techniques and technologies in the construction of the building, the mapping as well as in the interior settings. Goal was to not only build an energy friendly complex, also in terms of ergonomics the latest techniques are applied. Once the interior is fully finished the employees will be able to optimally function in the new and modern desk and production environments.
Compactness was one of the conditions that needed to be taken into account. The available surface for building the new facility was limited. The available space was used optimally by rethinking the arrangement of the required areas and functions to end up with a compact and organizationally efficient building.
Connection was a second concept that needed to be considered. Not only the connection with the existing building, to allow the flow of people and goods from the new to the existing building, but also connection with the leadership mindset and focus on innovative ideas.
As people spend a significant amount of time at work it is important that they find the right place for their individual activities and teamwork. An extensive number of different spaces have been integrated to maximize peoples‘ comfort and efficiency. That the employee’s well-being was one of the main criteria is reflected in the selection of a top system for climatization.
Specific care has been placed on respecting the environment by selecting suppliers who provide environmentally friendly material. The new extension’s total energy performance and energy efficiency were taken into account from the very beginning. The loss of energy is limited thanks to the compact way of building and the advanced insulation techniques. To lower our ecological footprint even more, energy is optimally used by for example re-generating the heat of the production equipment.
We engineer the sustainable future, in whatever we undertake.
