Measuring large distances using time-of-flight measurement
Micro Epsilon has extended its product range with new laser sensors. In addition to the existing time-of-flight sensors there are four new complementary models. Under the names optoNCDT ILR 1181, 1182, 1183 and 1191, these sensors provide new approaches to solving automation tasks. The 80 Series functions according to the phase comparison principle, whereby a precise distance measurement is possible. They achieve a measuring range of 30m for use on diffuse reflecting surfaces and 150m when using a special reflector, which guides the laser pulse back into the optical system for large measuring distances. The optoNCDT ILR 1191 operates according to the “Time-of-Flight” principle and achieves a measuring range of 3,000m with a reflector; a measuring range of 300m is possible without using the reflector. With a linearity of between ±3mm and ±5mm or ±20mm to ±0mm for the 1191 series and a repeat accuracy of less than 0.5mm, these sensors are ideal for precision measurement tasks. The three products are differentiated by certain criteria. The optoNCDT ILR 1183 has a Profibus DP interface, for integration in fieldbus systems. The optoNCDT ILR 1182, which offers a significantly lower comparative response time with its 50Hz measuring rate, is intended for particularly fast processes. The optoNCDT ILR 1191 sensor is targeted at very large measuring sections and offers very fast measuring rates (up to 2kHz). All models are fitted with either an RS232, RS422, SSI or the above mentioned Profibus DP port. The sensors in the 80 Series have mounting grooves that enable easy mounting of the sensors in almost any position.
The new light travel time sensors are ideal for use in filling level measurement, safety applications, height measurement of lifting systems, overhead conveyors, crane systems and for positioning lifts. Any other task in which position or distance needs to be determined can also be performed using these sensors.
