What Gets Research Going: Beamline Instrumentation

22 April 2015

Physik Instrumente (PI): The Beamline Instrumentation Division of PI miCos GmbH presents its own website at www.beamlineinstrumentation.com.

The website focuses on case studies from experiment stations in research centers all over the world. They provide a detailed description of the experimental equipment and the demands made on positioning systems with respect to the various different methods of analysis such as x-ray tomography, spectroscopy or microscopy. This provides an impressive insight into the technical possibilities under the extreme ambient conditions that prevail in particle accelerators, synchrotron radiation sources or free-electron lasers.

Furthermore, the new website shows further products and system solutions from the portfolio of the PI Group for high-precision, long-term stable and flexible alignment of the core components in large research facilities.

Beamline Instrumentation

Research into increasingly small particles and structures requires increasingly larger machines and instruments. The Beamline Instrumentation Division of the PI Group supports research projects on large-scale equipment. The specialists from Beamline Instrumentation work closely together with universities and research centers. They are already in close contact with scientists during the conception phase and, depending on the requirement, undertake development tasks, engineering services and system integration including the full instrumentation of an experiment.

Close interaction with PI's own development and production centers in Germany and worldwide guarantees the best possible precision positioning technology for the very special requirements of beam experiments.

About PI miCos

The miCos GmbH was founded in Eschbach near Freiburg, Germany, in 1990. As PI miCos, it now belongs to the PI Group (Physik Instrumente), located in Karlsruhe, Germany. With currently more than 90 employees, the company develops, produces and markets innovative motion systems and components for high-precision positioning applications throughout the world. One of the main focuses is on optical metrology in research and industry. For this purpose, PI miCos offers customized system solutions with multiple axes in addition to a comprehensive standard program. Wide-ranging application know-how guarantees the implementation of technically demanding solutions. Flexible positioning systems for ultrahigh vacuum applications are a good example of this, as are parallel-kinematic Hexapods with six degrees of freedom and systems with air bearing axes for the highest running accuracy.
