Hall Travel- and Rotary Sensor Platforms for Automotive Applications

Tyco Electronics: In the automotive industry, development time is a key factor for successful market positioning. Tyco Electronics’ answer for this is a platform strategy for non-contact switches and angular- and travel sensors. Standardized designs and production processes offer short-term availability of fully functional sensors for functional testing. One highlight is the hall technology based travel- and angular sensor platform for measurement ranges up to 40mm or angle ranges of 360° (see picture). Travel and angle measurement can be realized within one sensor package.

The applied hall technology is a 2D measurement principle which results in a significant measurement performance increase compared to existing Hall sensors. These sensors show a high performance related to a linearity error of only 2-3% and a temperature drift of lower than 2%.

Compared to inductive systems, the hall sensor platform of Tyco Electronics needs a minimum of space and makes more cost effective production possible. The platform sensors from Tyco Electronics are all suitable for IP class applications of 6K9K, which makes them applicable for the harshest automotive environments. At the same time, the Hall platform sensors can be programmed customer specific regarding measurement range and the electrical interface (PWM or analog).
