Control systems PSSuniversal from Pilz communicate via PROFIBUS/PROFIsafe – Machinery safety and axis monitoring in one architecture
Pilz is expanding the control systems PSSuniversal multi. The new control system type can communicate via PROFIBUS/PROFIsafe. Using PSSuniversal multi makes safety technology simpler to handle; take CNC-based control architectures as an example. Users have a standardised control concept for machinery safety and axis monitoring.
The merging of machinery safety and axis monitoring is of particular interest for users of multi-axis systems such as machine tools, for example: they can connect the control system PSSuniversal multi to a safe CNC or motion control system (MC) via PROFIsafe, for instance. The rotary encoder data from the various axes is recorded exclusively via the CNC or MC control system and is transferred to the control system PSSuniversal multi for safe evaluation. There, all machine functions are configured and programmed in a user-friendly manner, using the graphics Program Editor PASmulti. The comprehensive library of standard and certified failsafe blocks enables particularly simple operation and a high level of reusability.
Open for standard I/O modules
PSSuniversal multi can also make a further contribution to reducing costs and complexity: even standard I/O modules can be connected directly to the control system. If these signals are not used within the local safety program, they can easily be forwarded to the CNC controller via the existing fieldbus connection. This is achieved via a special “bypass function”, so that there is no time loss due to a user program.
With PSSuniversal multi, standard and safety periphery are merged into one common infrastructure; no additional devices and fieldbus connections are required. The control systems PSSuniversal multi are part of the automation system PSS 4000 from Pilz, which can be used to resolve automation functions.
