DIS Sensors introduces QR 30 incremental rotary encoders
DIS Sensors has extended the already well-known QR30 rotary encoder family. The current range of absolute rotary encoders, which are applied in particular for static measurements, is extremely broad already (ranges from 45°/60°/90°/120°/180°/360°). Still, it has now been supplemented with a complete series of incremental encoders.
The differences between 'absolute' vs. 'incremental'
An 'absolute' encoder maintains position information even if the system voltage cuts out. The position of this encoder is immediately available the moment the current is switched on again. The system does not need to return to a calibration point to maintain its accuracy. The new DIS 'incremental' encoder accurately registers changes in position by counting the number of pulses. By counting the pulses, the angle, speed and rotation direction are displayed. An incremental encoder can translate an infinite number of revolutions into an exact position and is therefore especially suitable for applications in combination with electric motors. Incremental encoders are, among other things, suitable for use on (induction) servomotors, while the absolute encoders are applied in permanent magnet brushless motors for example.
