Exergen Global’s reflective cone for infrared sensors named innovation finalist in best of sensors expo awards
Cone is Only Device to Prevent Temperature Errors Caused by Ambient Radiation and Emissivity
Exergen Global announced that its Reflective Cone, a custom-designed tool that works with the company’s IRt/c infrared sensors, has been named an innovation finalist in the Best of Sensors Expo Awards.
Exergen Global’s Reflective Cone is the only device to prevent temperature errors caused by ambient radiation and emissivity. The custom-designed cone works with Exergen’s non-contact IRt/c sensors to ensure high-quality processing for a wide range of industrial applications, including semiconductor, printing, plastics and other production processes.
The Reflective Cone was one of nearly one hundred entrants for the innovation award, ranging from analog MEMS microphones, to magnetic position sensors, to gas and thermal sensors.
“Most conventional IR sensors do not account for the frequent and sometimes significant changes in surface emissivity, resulting in less accurate temperature readings,” said Mat Dirjish, Sensor Magazine. “Exergen’s Reflective Cone overcomes this problem because its custom-fitted conical design prevents ambient radiation from entering the surface being measured, and reflects emitted radiation and directs it to the sensor detector. By decreasing ambient reflections and emissivity variations, the Reflective Cone reduces temperature measurement errors by a factor of ten.”
The Best of Sensors Expo Awards for innovation recognizes advances in sensor and sensor-related technologies, either in the form of novel technologies or as significant improvements in existing technologies.
