High Sensitivity Force Sensors for Dynamic Biomedical Tissue Product Testing
January 13, 2006, Depew, NY, USA -- High Sensitivity, Miniature Series 209C Quartz Piezoelectric Force Sensors from the Force/Torque Division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc. (PCB®) measure dynamic compression and tensile forces in a wide variety of biomedical tissue product testing applications. Sensors feature ICP® voltage output, and have an extremely high sensitivity of 2,200 mV/lb (500 mV/N) at a force range of 2.2 lb (10 N) in compression and 1 lb (4.5 N) in tension. ICP® force sensors contain built-in microelectronics to convert the high impedance charge to a low impedance voltage, which eliminates the noise associated with charge amplifiers and the required high impedance cables. This allows for a broadband resolution from the sensor of 20 µlb rms (90 µN rms).
Biomedical applications include dynamic testing of muscle fiber, cartilage, bone and hair specimens. Product testing applications include spring force and hysteresis, electrical contact and relay actuation forces, computer keyboard finger force and touch screen push force.
