Leuze electronic wins the "Best of Industry Award 2019"
With its "Smart Process Gating" muting process, which does not use signaling sensors, Leuze electronic won not only the 2019 GIT Security Award, but also the "Best of Industry Award 2019".
Owen, July 2, 2019 – On June 27 in Würzburg, "MM Maschinenmarkt" presented the "Best of Industry" awards for the fourth time. In the Automation category, Leuze electronic was crowned the winner for its "Smart Process Gating." The award was accepted by Dr. Volker Rohbeck, Safety Consultant at Leuze electronic, and the inventor of the new process, Jörg Packeiser, Product Marketing Manager Safety. "It is, of course, a great honor to have one's idea be acknowledged with an award," says a pleased Rohbeck, the visionary for the gold-winning technology from Leuze electronic. The festive award presentation was held at the VCC Vogel Convention Center in Würzburg. Outstanding products and innovative concepts in a total of 11 categories were chosen by a jury of experts and the online community of the trade publication. Present at the gala evening were 31 nominated companies who had entered the competition with products or technologies that had either already won or at least been nominated for an industry prize in the past. The decision was made in equal parts by readers and a jury of experts from industry and research as well as editors from the trade journal.
"MM Maschinenmarkt." The "Smart Process Gating" (SPG) submitted by Leuze electronic is a new process that is based on the MLC safety light curtain. It can be used to make access guarding with material transport more economical, simpler and safer. For example, in intralogistics, as well as in the automotive and packaging industries, material locks on conveyor lines often have to be protected against unauthorized access by means of optical safety sensors. Previously, muting processes with muting sensors were required in order to clearly identify when transported goods are approaching a protective field and to bridge the passing of these goods through the protective field at the correct moment. The SPG method developed by Leuze electronic is an innovative alternative, which completely eliminates the need for signal-emitting sensors. Based on the MLC safety light curtains, conveyor systems can thus be made more compact. The risk of misalignment or damage to the sensors is eliminated as are the costs for their maintenance and servicing. Furthermore, the purchasing costs, the wiring and risk of manipulation are reduced, which increases the availability of the complete safety device. With SPG, the first muting signal comes from the process control (PLC), while the second muting signal is generated by the protective field itself. Smart Process Gating requires a detailed knowledge of the process so that the necessary PLC control signals are made available in the expected time window. The MLC 530 safety light curtain variant with Smart Process Gating (SPG) is TÜV-certified for safety. The achievable performance level of the solution is attained in conjunction with the system control that is used: PL d (with standard control) or PL e (with safety control). Leuze electronic is pleased to have won the "Best of Industry Award" and thanks both the jury of experts and the readers.
