maxon joins Thömus cross-country team
Swiss bicycle manufacturer Thömus and drive specialist maxon are entering into a partnership in cross-country cycling. As part of this cooperation, maxon is providing its e-bike platform to Thömus as the basis for an electric mountain bike for World Cup training. They also plan to make this bike available to the retail trade in the future.
“We are placing Swiss technology at the heart of the partnership. We want to promote cross-functional cooperation between World Cup cyclists and development teams on both sides,” said Eugen Elmiger, CEO of the maxon Group. “This enables us to further optimize our e-bike drives and make the know-how available to all customers.”
Thomas Binggeli, founder and owner of Thömus AG, likewise emphasized the potential for product development: “For us, the cooperation with the team and the new technology partnership with maxon are strong pillars in the innovation process.” In addition to their sporting goals, the Thömus-maxon team also has the ambition of building “the best and lightest electric XC mountain bike for World Cup training.” This creates an ideal basis for racing, “because it lets our athletes train more on the route, but without exceeding their optimal pulse and performance range,” said Binggeli.
The new electric mountain bike is equipped with the lightweight maxon BIKEDRIVE AIR e-bike system. Including the battery, it weighs only 3.5 kg and can be integrated into the bicycle frame almost invisibly. This partnership with the cross-country racing team underlines maxon’s aim to become the market leader for light and efficient e-bike drives.
A strong team for 2022, with Mathias Flückiger
The leader of the Thömus-maxon team is Mathias Flückiger, overall World Cup winner in 2021 and silver medalist at the Olympics. He is joined by Alessandra Keller, Kathrin Stirnemann, Vital Albin, and Luke Wiedmann.
“The new possibilities offered by the electric XC mountain bike and the light maxon drive are becoming integral to our training, and help us to prepare for the race even better,” said team manager Ralph Näf. “We have been working with maxon for several years, and were able to contribute to the development of the BIKEDRIVE AIR. I am convinced that this light e-bike drive is ideal for ambitious sports cyclists, and am looking forward to the partnership very much.”
