New sensor signal conditioning module
Penny + Giles has launched a new high-performance, low-cost, sensor signal conditioning module for any sensor that produces a 0-5Vdc output signal. The SSC unit, which retails in the UK for less than £35 for OEM quantities, is housed in an IP68 rated rugged metal enclosure and is suitable for OEMs wanting to convert sensor output voltage signals to a 4-20mA current signal.
The SSC is easy to use and features many options for a flexible-set up. As a result it suits a variety of applications, for example transmitting the output signal of a rotary position sensor linked to a steam valve in a power generating plant, over a long distance to a control room. SSC reliably converts a sensor’s output voltage signal to a 4-20mA (or optional 5-19mA) current output, or by using additional module cards, into a variety of different voltage formats or a digital pulse width modulated output.
The SSC module also provides a 5Vdc source that may be used as a supply for many types of sensor, including potentiometers, contactless position transducers, tilt sensors, pressure transducers and load cells.
Module SSC operates reliably from an unregulated 10 – 30Vdc supply, but where low noise performance is required with the optional voltage module card, a negative supply in the range –10 to –30Vdc may also be employed.
The unit has a rugged aluminium alloy housing which is sealed to IP68 and submersible to two meters. It carries the CE mark, and is designed for harsh environmental conditions and electrically noisy installations, with electromagnetic interference immunity to 100 V/m.
The SSC module is suitable for mounting on a bulkhead close to the sensor and is easily secured in place using M5 fixing holes. The supply, output and sensor connections are routed through two IP68 rated cable glands that can accommodate cables three to eight mm in diameter.
The SSC module is available from stock and is supplied from Penny + Giles’s ISO9001 certified facility in Christchurch, Dorset, UK.
