Platform load cell with hygienic-aseptic design meets EHEDG guideline
HBM is now introducing the platform load cell PW27, the only one on the market to meet the EHEDG guideline for applications in the food sector.
HBM is now introducing the platform load cell PW27, the only one on the market to meet the EHEDG guideline for applications in the food sector.
This new platform load cell, initially available with a maximum capacity of 20 kg, has an integrated overload stop that prevents it from being damaged if the load is too great. Load cells with maximum capacity of 10 kg are in preparation.
Hygiene plays an increasingly important role in the food industry. The reasons for this lie in the increasing consumer demand for the freshest possible foodstuffs without preservatives. Globalization, with in part long transport chains, also contributes to the increasing necessity of production under absolutely perfect conditions hygienically.
The European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) – an association of manufacturers, food producers and research institutes – is therefore working on specific guidelines that guarantee the best possible hygiene during food production. The main aspect is to achieve problem-free cleaning of all plants and components used.
For this reason, the PW27 platform load cell is cylindrical and completely designed without corners and edges in stainless steel. The solid tubular housing hermetically encapsulates the measuring element with the strain gages. This guarantees that the load cell is insensitive to all current cleaning and disinfection agents used in the food industry.
Thanks to the construction design, the PW27 can be very easily cleaned. Cleaning according to strict cleaning plans with cleaning and disinfection agents is standard in the food industry. This is why the platform load cell also meets the high degrees of protection IP68 and even IP69K.
Applications can be found here for example in filling and packaging machines, in multihead combination weighers (MHC) or in static scales.
