Programmable rotary sensors with an expanded operating gap and a new safety function
Southborough, MA - Novotechnik U.S. introduces the Vert-X 31E Series of programmable rotary sensors with an expanded operating gap and a new safety function. The sensors are touchless magnetic angle sensors with a permanent magnet that can be secured to an application’s rotating shaft, so that there is no direct mechanical linkage between the shaft and the measuring system, and therefore no wear.
Vert-X 31E Series sensors work through air or non-magnetic materials with a gap between magnet and sensor. With a new improved configuration, the maximum gap is increased to 0.5 inch between sensor and magnet. For mission critical or safety applications, the sensors provide a flag by lowering the output signal to a specific level outside the normal electrical range in the rare case the magnet is damaged or if the sensor’s magnetic actuator is outside the valid operating range. The gap can be extended to 0.74 inch if the application is not mission critical or safety related.
Key specifications for Vert-X 31E include 31 mm profile, 0 to 360° measurement range, resolution to 14-bit, repeatability of 0.1° or better, and maximum hysteresis of 0.1°. Eight output options are available: 0.1 to 10 V, 0.5 to 4.5 V, 4 to 20 mA, 10 to 90% of power supply, SSI, PWM, Incremental and SPI.
This Series includes basic plug-and-play models as well as programmable models. Programmable output characteristics include custom characteristic curve, angle range, zero point, and curves as well as gradient-direction versus direction of rotation.
The Series includes 5 and 24 V supply models. Vert-X 31E versions have a MTBF of 147 years or longer—depending on version. All models feature an ingress protection rating of IP 68 and operating range of -40 to +85°C and can withstand shock and vibration to 200 g and 50 g respectively.
