Pilz at WindEnergy Hamburg 2014 (23.- 26.09.2014) – Safe, efficient automation of wind turbines

Ostfildern, Jul 24, 2014. Products and solutions for the safe automation of wind turbines are the focus of Pilz's exhibition stand at WindEnergy Hamburg 2014. The complete safe automation supplier will be showing scalable, safe solutions for both new and existing wind turbines. Pilz will also be providing information on its range of services en route to CE marking.

"Safety on wind turbines serves not only to protect people or comply with directives and guidelines, but also to protect investments. Pilz supports design engineers and operators worldwide with a solutions package tailored to the needs of the industry", explains Renate Pilz, Chair of the Board of Pilz GmbH & Co. KG.

Pilz offers scalable components and systems for monitoring all the relevant safety functions on wind turbines. These include general plant values such as temperature, pressure, vibration or electrical variables, as well as values for overspeed of the rotor and generator shaft, rotor blade adjustment and the wind tracking system. Pilz's product portfolio for wind energy includes: the safe speed monitor PNOZ s30 for safe monitoring of standstill, speed, direction of rotation and shearpin breakage for the very highest safety requirements (up to Performance Level PL e); the configurable control systems PNOZmulti and the automation system PSS 4000 with various control classes, software tools and the real-time Ethernet SafetyNET p. As an open system, PSS 4000 can easily be integrated into existing architectures and can be maintained and monitored remotely. Robust T-control modules are intended for use in an extended temperature range and guarantee full functionality under increased vibration and oscillation. They are also resistant to aggressive air compositions. Simple handling and configuration are characteristic of all Pilz components.

As wind turbines are classed as machines under the Machinery Directive, manufacturers are obliged to carry out a full CE conformity procedure. At WindEnergy Hamburg, Pilz will be demonstrating the steps required for a successful, efficient implementation as well as the specific support services the company has to offer. The portfolio covers risk assessment, development of a safety concept for wind turbines and the validation of safety solutions. Operators benefit from Pilz's extensive knowledge in the field of machinery safety.
