Sensirion strengthens its automotive sensor module business and acquires the automotive division of AIC.
Sensirion AG, the market leader in environmental and flow sensor solutions, acquires the automotive business of Auto Industrial Co. Ltd. (AIC), a provider of automotive sensor modules. With this acquisition, which includes sites in China, South Korea and the US, Sensirion expands its market position as 1st tier and OEM automotive sensor module supplier.
The acquisition expands Sensirion’s global footprint and strengthens its automotive sensor module business. The acquired company will operate under the name Sensirion Automotive Solutions as a legally independent entity of Sensirion. AIC and Sensirion have been collaborating very successfully for many years. The acquisition includes the sensor and module business of AIC, which designs, manufactures and sells sensor modules for the automotive industry. Its key products are auto defogging sensors (ADS), air quality sensors (AQS) and carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors. “We have known Sensirion as the leading environmental sensor company for many years and we successfully use Sensirion sensors in our core products for automotive 1st tiers and OEMs,” says Joon-Kook Choi, CEO of AIC. “I am convinced that Sensirion Automotive Solutions will serve our customers in South Korea, China and the US even better with a new range of high performance sensing solutions.” With ISO/TS16949-certified factories, R&D centers and sales offices in China, South Korea, Switzerland and the US, as well as a long history of selling to OEMs and 1st tiers, Sensirion Automotive Solutions is already part of the leading provider of sensor modules and environmental sensors for the automotive market.
Sensirion’s product range is the ideal complement and includes gas and liquid flow sensors, differential pressure sensors and environmental sensors for the measurement of humidity and temperature, volatile organic compounds (VOC), carbon dioxide (CO2) and particulate matter (PM2.5). “The integration of AIC’s sensor module business strengthens our position as a comprehensive solution provider for the automotive market and moves us closer to customers,” says Marc von Waldkirch, CEO of Sensirion. “Sensirion’s broad sensor design-in and application know-how combined with AIC’s module expertise will enable the new company, Sensirion Automotive Solutions, to provide turnkey sensing module solutions and bring automotive environmental sensing to the next level.” Sensirion AG as the longstanding sensor component company and Sensirion Automotive Solutions will operate as independent entities. The R&D, production and sales offices in Switzerland will not be affected by this acquisition. Sensirion AG will continue to focus on sensor components.
