SmartReflect light barriers for transparency detection

Baumer: For the detection of transparent packaging materials, such as foils, trays and bottles as used in the food and beverage packaging industry, Baumer launches new light barriers without reflector. The SmartReflect light barriers guarantee time savings of 50% during installation and a reliable object detection.

The photoelectric sensors detect transparent objects with the same reliability as ultrasonic sensors, but with up to 15 times shorter respones times. In the area of photelectric sensing SmartReflect sensors are the only ones that can detect transparent objects with a sensing distance up to 800 mm without reflector. The method, patent pending, can be used for monitoring (horizontal) position and triggering a synchronized process. The teach-in can be effected via the teach wire.

In order to meet the special requirements of the applications, there are two sensor versions: one for detecting highly transparent foils, pinnacle of transparency detection, as well as one for trays and bottles. The sensors are available in hygienic and washdown design with IP 69K protection and impermeability concept proTect+. Thus, they are especially suitable for applications in food and beverage packaging. Since the weak spot “reflector” has been eliminated, the user benefits from higher process reliability.
