Stainless steel pressure sensors in thick film technology - now also with integrated process connection
Metallux: For many applications, it is recommended to replace conventional ceramic pressure sensors with stainless steel pressure sensors. The piezoresistive pressure sensors, which are made from stainless steel in a monolithic design, excel with high burst pressure even under high pressure ranges.
Over the years, Metallux has expanded the series of stainless steel, thick film pressure sensors by a version with an enhanced output signal, 0.5...4.5V (ratio metric). In addition to the stainless steel monolithic SPS 1000 sensors, the SPS 3003 series of Metallux offers an integrated connection thread. Thanks to this connection thread, welding the sensor to a pressure connection is no longer required. The pressure sensor is made of one piece. This allows an extremely high burst pressure. Safety in the application is increased, making leaking media a thing of the past. A calibration process (patent pending) ensures precision and long term stability. These sensors are suitable for various applications such as refrigeration technology, hydraulics, automation, and in plant and machine construction.

Why stainless steel sensors?
A major disadvantage of ceramics is their lack of ductility and high level of brittleness. If they are overloaded, ceramic membranes burst and the measure medium leaks. In contrast, stainless steel sensor initially only undergo plastic deformation. Stainless steel sensors can be connected by welding technology or even by an integrated pressure connection, as compared to using an elastomer seal. The omission of seals is very beneficial for use in hydraulics or refrigeration technology. In summary, users benefit from the following: A high level of security for workers and equipment due to the high burst pressure, as the medium stays in the system. The steel sensor with integrated pressure connection enables easier fitting. A high level of long-term stability results in reliable signal detection. All of these factors lead to a high level of reliability with a simultaneous reduction in costs.
