The New Absolute Magnetic Linear Measuring System BML-S1G
Precise position values without reference run
Balluff: The position measuring system BML-S1G is a specialist for heavy-duty environments. It features a robust metal housing with steel bottom for protection against electromagnetic interference. It has extraordinary precision and a high resolution at measuring lengths up to 48 meters and it opens up applications which were previously the domain of optical measuring systems.
The system covers applications for all distance measurements, such as linear drives, laser cutting systems, in mechanical engineering, printing systems, etc. Its compact dimensions make it easy to inte-grate into applications.
The magnetic linear measuring system from Balluff in Protection Class IP 67 consists of a sensor head and a magnetically encoded tape. The sensor head glides at an operating gap over the measure-ment body, which is magnetized with alternating polarity. Due to its absolute encoding, the position value is available immediately after the system is switched on, without a reference run. Its high installation tolerance and multicolored LEDs make for quick installation. The integrated diagnostics functions enable fast troubleshooting and en-sure short downtimes.
The sensor has a BISS-C or SSI interface. In addition, real-time sig-nals are available at the sensor output in the form of sinusoidal ana-log signals of 1 Vpp or, alternatively, interpolated digital square RS422 signals. Resolution ranges up to 1 µm at system accuracies up to ± 20 µm and travel speeds up to 10 m/s.
Since the system works magnetically, it is also insensitive to tempera-ture changes, soiling (such as from dust and oil), or wear. This also applies to noise interference since Balluff development engineers focused on a highly EMC-resistant electronic and housing design.
