Balluff: At the SPS, Balluff was demonstrating how UHF technology can be used successfully at short distances. On view was a KANBAN Demonstrator which integrates the Balluff BIS U industrial RFID system, besides other tried and tested Balluff sensors. Label, antennas, and readers are installed in a highly compact high-density space, which is in fact one of the most difficult applica-tions in logistics.

RFID specialist Balluff took up this challenge by using special labels and then fitting the right antennas with suitable polar patterns. The special core of this system solution is a unique power management concept which is so far an absolute innovation. It prevents crosstalk and limits transmit power on-site, tailored to the specific require-ments. The result is a rapid, interference-free detection process.

Through its work, Balluff is creating the basis to automate tracking and control processes in the near future throughout the entire material flow in the logistics sector of an enterprise, using a single RFID sys-tem without any discontinuity in medium. The Balluff UHF system could then be used over large distances of several meters as well as at close range of only a few centimeters.
