Zemic load cells used in DWS Systems
A Dimensioning, Weighing and Scanning (DWS) system is a type of technology used in logistics and warehouses to manage inventory and shipments. These systems accurately measure the dimensions, weight and sometimes other features of objects such as packages, parcels, or pallets. These systems consist of various weighing sensors, scanners, and software components that work together to capture and process the necessary data.
Implementing a DWS system offers significant advantages. Automation reduces manual labor, increasing output and efficiency. Accurate inventory data improves stock management and order fulfillment. Integration with existing systems enables real-time monitoring and streamlined operations. Load cells are used in these systems to measure weights. At Zemic we notice that there is an increasing demand for these systems. We have already been able to supply load cells for many of these DWS systems.

How DWS systems are used
The implementation of the DWS (Dimension, Weighing and Scanning) system has had a significant impact on operational efficiency within logistics centers.
Previously, manual handheld PDAs (personal digital assistant) were utilized for scanning purposes, achieving a throughput of 1800 pieces per hour. However, since implementing the DWS system, not only has parcel code reading become more efficient, but also parcel dimension and weight measurement. This integration has increased the handling efficiency to an impressive 3500 parcels per hour, almost doubling the previous rate.
More about DWS Systems
The feedback from our customers have highlighted the value and benefits of these systems. These key benefits are the main reasons for implementing DWS systems:
- The system enables rapid data collection and verification of parcels, facilitating internal cost verification and settlement processes. This streamlined approach minimizes errors and enhances overall accuracy in handling operations.
- The accurate data collected by the DWS allows for the efficient scheduling of delivery vehicles. Logistics companies can now optimize their resources based on real-time parcel information, leading to improved route planning and resource allocation
- The insights derived from parcel handling data provide valuable guidance for future investments in sorting centers. Companies can make informed decisions regarding expanding their infrastructure or optimizing existing facilities, thereby maximizing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- It's crucial that customers have full confidence in their service invoices. With data processing and validation procedures in place, customers can be assured that the bills they receive accurately reflect the services they've paid for.
Zemic BM11 load cell used for weighing in DWS systems
The BM11 bending beam load cells are used for weighing in two DWS Systems, each with their own features to provide the best solution to our partners.
The first DWS system is the single scale. This system is capable to run over 3500 packages an hour. Besides the speed of the packages, the accuracy of the system is also impressive. It can weigh to the nearest of 30 grams.
The second DWS system is the dual scale DWS system. The big difference between this one and the single scale is that it has a capacity of around 6000 packages an hour. These kind of numbers make a big difference in supply chain management.
With the high response speed and high accuracy of the BM11 load cell, this load cell is able to meet these challenging requirements.
