Baumer: Stringent regulations in the food & beverage industry and the ever-growing competition demand positioning solutions quick and easy to clean. More and more aggressive cleaning agents are used, sometimes even at high temperatures. The utilized components must resist these industry-specific mechanical loads.

The new optical absolute encoders GE404 are made of highly resistive V4A stainless steel of class 1.4404 or 1.4435. The Viton sealings provide high resistance against chemical agents and high temperature as well as excellent aging properties. The encoders are leak-proof and IP 67 compliant. This results in maximum resistance and lifetime even at regular cleaning cycles with aggressive agents and allows for top-grade hygiene levels with minimized cleaning time. The robust ShaftLock bearing construction is well-proven for over 15 years and prevents machine downtime due to vibration and high shaft loads which occur in production and during cleaning.

The new series offers high resolutions of 14 bit single turn and 12 bit multi turn thanks to the optical sensing principle that allows precise positioning even at high velocity of up to 10.000 rpm. Optional incremental tracks allow for additional speed control with the same encoder. Besides SSI interface there are more configurations with many other field bus interfaces available. Functionalities like electronic setting of zero point, counting direction input and diagnostic functions ease installation and maintenance.
