Ultra-flat Baumer inductive sensor is product of the year
Sensor expert Baumer keeps pushing the limits of what is possible, including inductive sensors. The constant goal is to create added value for customers and open up new application possibilities. One current example is the extremely flat IF250, which combines reliable object detection with maximum design freedom. These advantages have also convinced the readers of the trade journal Computer&Automation (WEKA Business Medien). They voted the powerful new addition to the Baumer toolbox the sensor product of the year 2024.
What makes the new IF250 so special? This inductive sensor combines a very flat design height with an exceptionally large switching distance. Despite being only 6 mm thin, the IF250 can detect objects up to 12 mm away. This performance is unmatched in this package class and opens up new applications where standard cylindrical sensors cannot be easily integrated due to lack of space.
Ideal sensor solution for small installation depths
With the IF250, Baumer offers a variant with a very long switching distance for reduced space where the installation depth is a limiting factor. The new IF250 thus ideally complements the Baumer portfolio of high-performance inductive sensors in a compact design, from cylindrical subminiature sensors (3 mm diameter) up to M30 designs with max. 24 mm switching distance.
Another advantage of the long sensing distance sensor is the increased safety margin: the flat inductive sensor can be mounted at a greater safety distance from the object and is optimally protected even in critical applications.
Thanks to the compact design, IF250 is not only perfect for new installations but also for retrofit in existing plants where initially sensors had not been intended. Metal sleeves instead of fragile ones made of plastic and the mounting kit for easy pipe attachment ensure secure and robust sensor mount.
IF250 is available as proximity switch with industry-standard PNP or NPN output or as a measuring variant with digital IO-Link interface.
