Safety Light Curtain with Signal Monitoring

S4B IP65 light curtain permanently monitors signal strength and warns in the event of contamination or misalignment

Turck is expanding its safety portfolio with the S4B high-performance safety light curtain from its partner Banner Engineering. The latest generation light curtain permanently monitors alignment and signal strength and sends a warning message to the higher-level system via pin 5 if the signal strength is weak, allowing an early response to contamination or misalignment and increasing system availability.

The robust IP65 solution uses a three-color LED to indicate to the user whether the transmitter and receiver are correctly aligned, which speeds up installation and commissioning. Detachable 5-pole M12 cordsets with quick-disconnect plugs further simplify installation and guarantee quick replacement of damaged cables if necessary. Automatic cascading allows several light curtains to easily be connected in series. The S4B light curtains support two coded scan signals to avoid signal overlaps.

The large range of up to 12 meters enables use in a variety of applications, including assembly workstations, packaging lines and robot cells. The S4B devices are available with resolutions of 14 or 30 millimeters. The monitoring field heights of the 14 mm devices range from 300 to 1,200 millimeters, and from 300 to 1,800 millimeters for the 30 mm devices.
