PCV Data Matrix Positioning System
Pepperl+Fuchs: …the information in Data Matrix code (2D-code) is encoded on a square area as a pattern of dots. Compared to one-dimensional barcodes (1D code), the information density per unit area is clearly increased.
Why not use this code as the basis of a new positioning system?!
Individual Data Matrix codes can be positioned horizontally or vertically along a path which can be read and decoded with a camera-based reading head and the exact position output in x and y directions. The benefits are striking, for example, the highest data integrity, slim code band for the narrowest mounting sites and smallest curve radii are possible. Because a minimum of 6 codes are always read, there is a high code redundancy. Even with a lot of contamination or damage, the exact position is reliably determined, therefore meeting the strict requirements of material handling.
The PCV reading head uses modern camera technology and, due to the elimination of laser diodes and mechanical parts, is extremely robust, and provides a long service life. Distances up to 10 km including height measurement, extensive diagnostic information and DC switch outputs are just a few features of the unique Data Matrix positioning system.
Main features at a glance
- Long service life, due to the elimination of laser diodes
- Extremely chemically robust, due to the elimination of movable parts
- Positioning in 2 axes (additional height measurement, Y-axis)
- Small reading window allow narrow curve radii (radii ≥0,1m)
- Slim code band i.e. less space required
- Eventmarkers for generation of control signals
- Free selectable positions to connect DC output and input signals
