Cutting-edge sensor calibration just got better

Cutting-edge sensor calibration just got better

22 November 2024

Good news for ASC customers: With the addition of the SPEKTRA DRE-01 dynamic rotation exciter – a novel precision tool for calibrating gyroscopes and inertial measurement units (IMUs) as well as to characterize devices that require vibration rotation input – our calibration lab in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, near Munich, Germany, received a significant upgrade.

Which benefits not only regular customers relying on complete sensor solutions from ASC, but also those who get their own sensors calibrated in our lab. To that end, ASC Sensors will continue to provide calibration services for inertial sensors regardless of make, vendor or technology.

Innovation grounded in long-standing partnership

SPEKTRA Schwingungstechnik und Akustik GmbH Dresden has been a long-standing partner providing high-end calibration systems for ASC’s wide range of products. “Our customers do not just get a sensor, but a customized, complete solution tailored to their specific requirements. An integral part of this is ASC’s dedicated service to ensure that our technology provides highly accurate measurements even under extreme conditions, and remains stable on the long term,” explains Renate Bay, Managing Director of ASC Sensors.

Calibration specialist SPEKTRA has over 30 years of experience in developing and operationalizing sophisticated high-precision sensor calibration technology. As an accredited service provider and manufacturer, the company equips academic and other institutional as well as industrial laboratories around the world.

The compact DRE-01 dynamic rotation exciter is used in calibrating gyro transducers (angular velocity/acceleration) and to characterize MEMS sensors. It offers impressive advancements over current standards, featuring very low motion distortion and an angular velocity of up to 5300 °/s (max. sine peak) within a wide frequency range of 1 Hz to 5 kHz, to accommodate the specs of a wide range of tested devices.

Calibration for optimal performance

To ensure accurate measurements and consistent stability over the long term, sensors have to be calibrated at regular intervals. Professional calibration guarantees the flawless functionality of sensors and their results and gives you peace of mind.

The ASC calibration lab is accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 for the measurement of acceleration for both sinus and shock calibration. Our team of experts offers factory calibration as well as DAkkS accredited calibration in accordance with Directive DKD-R 3-1 for acceleration.

DAkkS accredited calibration certificates prove the traceability to national standards as required by the family of standards DIN EN ISO 9000 and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. Those services cover accelerometers and vibration sensors of all manufacturers, regardless of technology, including capacitive, piezoelectric (IEPE) and piezoresistive accelerometers.

As for factory calibrations, our specialists calibrate rod potentiometers and cable position sensors, as well as – in cooperation with partners – tilt sensors. Following the addition of the DRE-01 dynamic rotation exciter, ASC’s services now include the measurand angular velocity, too. This means that gyroscopes and inertial measurement units can now also be calibrated.

Committed to innovation and excellence

With this latest addition to our calibration tools, ASC can evaluate and calibrate a greater range of inertial sensors. In addition, we’re now able to do this more efficiently and economically, both for in-house products and the calibration services ASC offers.

“This new investment in calibration equipment and capabilities underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence in the products, technologies and services we provide,” states Bay. “At ASC Sensors, we look forward to leveraging these new capabilities to push the boundaries of sensor precision and stability.”
