Effects of electrode composition on heat generation in Electrical Double Layer Capacitors EDLCs

25 February 2019

Researchers used greenTEG’s gSKIN heat flux sensors to study the effects of electrode composition on heat generation in Electrical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLCs). The heat flux sensors were integrated within an isothermal calorimeter they previously designed and built.

EDLCs have strong applications in accelerating the renewable energy transition, but their high energy discharge rates result in high heat generation which could adversely affect performance. By investigating the different combination of materials parts within the EDLC, the research team continues to improve their understanding and design of EDLCs, thereby contributing to the progress and advancement of renewable energy technologies.
