LBFS: Reliable level switch using innovative frequency sweep technology now available for automation technology
The multi-purpose LBFS level switch from Baumer is now also available in a version especially designed for use in factory automation. By offering the frequency deviation technology developed by Baumer in the M18-casing, the sensor manufacturer is expanding the fields of implementation of this proven level switch and is offering a smart alternative to capacity sensors, with a consistent precision of +/- 1 mm.
The LBFS detects all kinds of powders, granules or liquids and is based on frequency deviation technology. The functional principle here exploits the fact that every material, regardless of its consistency, has a dielectric constant specific to the medium, and therefore a particular permeability for electrical fields. This allows mediums to be differentiated. This allows the switch to be calibrated, using the FlexProgrammer, exactly to the required material. Using this technology, the LBFS in particular detects sticky materials, adhesive foams or dirt which can lead to errors using other technologies. The LBFS, depending on its settings, quite simply ignores any material which is adhering to it.
This means that the LBFS has significant advantages over capacity sensors for measuring the fill levels of materials which are being stirred. It is particularly well-suited for use with liquids, for example oils or coolants. But also for measuring the fill-levels of metal particles which are picked up in a liquid grinding medium and which then settle within the tank of liquid. If inserted in these containers, the LBFS can signal when the volume of particles has been reached, so that the liquid can be changed. The level switch shows the same level of reliability for overflow, upper/lower limits and leakage monitoring.
