More vehicle safety – with digital twins and smart sensor systems
Virtual vehicle simulations help the automotive industry to make cars and trucks safer. ASC AiSys® smart sensor systems are the ideal basis for creating the digital twins used in these simulations: They can analyze huge amounts of data that are necessary for virtual car and truck models.
The automotive industry uses operating data from cars and trucks to create virtual models of networked vehicles. Engineers can use these digital twins for comprehensive analysis of overall performance in new vehicles. Simulations with virtual vehicles make it possible, for example, to determine why and how future problems – such as breakdowns – may occur. Data on the engine type, suspension, construction and aerodynamics of the body and materials provide information on how a vehicle will respond in various conditions.
On the basis of data from digital twins, automobile manufacturers can also carry out predictive analyses to make the driving experience more intelligent and safer for the vehicle owner. Digital twins also make it possible to monitor a vehicle throughout its entire life cycle. Engineers can then analyze in detail how the vehicle responds in its physical environment in order to optimize future vehicle generations.
ASC AiSys® smart sensor systems provide the basis for creating virtual vehicle models. They allow high-performance measurement of parameters such as acceleration or angular velocity, conversion of signals to digital data and processing of this data to provide application-specific information. This information is then used to compare the digital twin simulations with reality, in order to make predictions. ASC AiSys® smart sensor systems feature AI functions at the edge, i.e. on the sensor itself. This eliminates cost- and energy-intensive raw data transmission, and micro-decisions can be made in the immediate vicinity of the application.
