Papcel: World’s Leading Papermaking Machinery Manufacturer Employs Exergen’s Non-Contact Thermal Sensor Solution
Papcel uses Exergen’s IRt/c.5 sensors and its air purge to increase operatonal effciency, ensure optimal end-product quality
WATERTOWN, Mass., and ZIJTAART, the Netherlands, November 29, 2017 - Exergen Global, an award-winning thermal solutions provider, announced today that Papcel, a leading papermaking machinery manufacturer, is employing Exergen’s non-contract infrared sensors in its Softcalender paper machine to ensure optimal operational efficiency and paper quality.
Papcel is using Exergen’s non-contact IRt/c.5 sensors to maintain the temperature required to precisely control the paper drying process, and to do so at greater speeds, saving considerable energy and ensuring more reliable results and quality. Exergen’s sensors are employed at multiple points in the operation to measure the temperature of the swimming roll that is rotating up to 400 rpms. The sensors signal air jets to open or close in order to cool the drum and keep it at 90°C.
Precise temperature measurement is critical in print production where overheating can damage the drum, sensors and other equipment, potentially costing thousands of dollars. Additionally, if substrates measure below or above very specific temperature ranges, then the end quality can be degraded. Since the field of view in the machinery is small and the papermaking environment is prone to be dusty, Papcel is also using Exergen’s air purge, a device that cleans the sensor lens.
“Papcel is continually striving to provide the industry’s best papermaking machinery, designed to produce optimal, reliable results while saving energy – all at a competitive price,” said Mr. Jiri Neplech of Papcel. “Exergen’s IRt/c.5 thermal sensors and air purge offer the dependability, precision and quality our customers demand, while delivering the cost-savings and energy efficiencies needed to meet our exacting standards.”
“Exergen has a long and productive history working with Papcel,” said Bart van Liempd, CEO of Exergen Global. “Through our partnership, we’ve been able to precisely identify their thermal management requirements and design the sensor and air purge solution ideally suited to meet their needs and the needs of their customers.”
About Exergen’s Non-Contact Sensors
Exergen holds more than 75 patents in the field of non-contact IR temperature sensors, and offers the industry’s only self-powered IRt/cs. Its proprietary speed boost equation increases production speeds while maintaining optimal temperatures. Exergen’s innovative family of infrared non-contact sensors have no drift, high repeatability and interchangeability, giving them the edge needed to increase production process speed and quality. Its sensors have mean-time-between-failure (MTBF) rates of a thousand years, deliver accuracy of within 0.01°C., have high repeatability, 0.0001°C resolution, and response times between 50 and 150 milliseconds.
