ZSPM1508 True-Digital PWM Controller IC applications for powering input/output banks in FPGAs
ZMD AG (ZMDI), an award-winning global semiconductor company headquartered in Dresden, Germany, and specializing in enabling energy-efficient solutions, announces the ZSPM1508 single-phase, true-digital pulse-width modulator (PWM) power controller optimized for powering input/output bank voltage supplies for field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) in communication, networking and industrial equipment. It is pre-configured for a power stage output of 3.3V and is capable of supporting loads up to 15A.
ZMDI offers superior solutions for power management, sensing, battery management, automotive ASICs and industrial ASSPs. An analog mixed-signal company, ZMDI designs solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications. With over 50 years of industry leadership, ZMDI is recognized for providing innovation and sustainability for power management products that enable customers to achieve higher energy efficiency and contribute to reduction of CO2 emissions.
A typical FPGA application requires multiple power supplies. The ZSPM1508 is configured to power the input/output banks, which are used to power the output buffer drivers in the FPGA. The ZSPM1508 is optimized for ZMDI’s integrated MOSFET power stage DrMOS products to provide customers with high performance power solutions and fast time-to-market. ZMDI provides recommended bills-of-materials (BOMs) and printed circuit board (PCB) layout files to reduce external component cost and minimize the application footprint.
The ZSPM15xx family of digital controllers features a flexible design that allows users to easily select the over-current protection limit, output voltage rise time and control loop compensation via two external resistors to achieve the highest performance in their application.
“The ZSPM1508 provides a highly efficient power conversion with low noise and ripple that is essential for the output buffer drivers in the FPGA,” said Hensen Wong, Product Marketing Manager of the ZMDI Power Management Division. “With ZMDI’s State-Law Control™ (SLC) technology, the ZSPM1508 is capable of monitoring the output voltage with two parallel compensation feedback loops: one circuit for steady-state operations and a different circuit for transient operations. This enables the ZSPM1508 to quickly switch between the different compensation modes to provide excellent transient performance with the lowest noise and output ripple.“
